How to Troubleshoot a Linksys Wireless Router

When using a router it's very common to experience some problems with connection. Most of the times a few troubleshooting steps will do.
Restart your computer after every step to see if it will work. You don't necessarily need to go down through every single step, if it works.
(Example) Try Step 1 first. If it works for you, you don't need to go on to the next one. But maybe the first step doesn't work. Just try the next one until you find something that works for you.

Follow these steps if you can't connect to the Internet and/or are getting IP conflict:

1.Check if your router is connected to the cable modem using Ethernet cables

2.Unplug the power cables of your modem and router (gateway) for 10 seconds and plug back on

3.Check all your computers to see if they are set up to obtain IP address automatically. To do so go to:
a.)Start menu->Control Panel->Network connections

b.)Right click on Network connections and scroll down and click on properties
c.)On the general tab, Make sure that the box for internet protocol (TCP/IP) is checked. Highlight it and click properties.

d.)When the TCP/IP box opens, on the general tab check the obtain IP address automatically and obtain DNS address automatically. Click OK to exit.

Repair the Connection
4. On the network connections, right-click on your wireless connection (or usually an image of a single computer at the bottom right corner of your computer screen) and click "Repair." The computer will attempt to reconnect to the wireless router.

5.If that does not work go to the router web utility.

a.) On your web browser type your router IP address. You can find it on the router's manual and on the router itself. If you can find try using 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.24.1 (Usually these are the default IP .)You must do this on the computer that is directly connected to the router.

After it loads, should look like something this:

a.)On the basic setup under setup tab make sure the first box displays Automatically Configuration-DHCP

b.)Scroll down on the network setup enable the DHCP server, then save your settings.

6. Change the channel:

a.)Click on the "wireless Tab", then "Basic Wireless Settings"
b.) the "Channel" page opens, in that area, click on the drop down list and use only channels 1, 6, or 11. These channels do not "Overlap" with any other channels, and will give the clearest signal.
c.)Save your settings.
